Keeping your Garage Secure this Summer

The summer is one of the greatest times of the year in our opinion – you get to be outside all the time, spend time with friends and family, and spend your days by the swimming pool! Your kids are out of school for the summer which means you can spend your weekends travel to the lake or the beach. 6 tips for keeping your garage door secure this summer:

1. Keep it closed

One of the easier things you can do to ensure the safety of your home is making sure to keep your garage door closed at all times. If your garage door faces the street and people walking or driving by see that it’s always open with no one in or around it, that’s an open invitation for trouble. Make it a habit to always keep your garage door closed when you aren’t out there!

2. Choose frosted windows

Not only do frosted garage door windows add value and charm to your home, but they also act as an extra layer of protection. Frosted garage door windows are always recommended by Bob’s Advance Garage Doors because people on the outside can’t see in – they act as privacy windows. 

3. Hide the openers

We aren’t talking about the opener on the actual door unit itself, but the ones you keep in your car. You want to make sure you don’t show yourself as an easy target, so if you leave your openers laying in your unlocked car, you are essentially handing a burglar the keys to your home. 

4. Lock it

If you have multiple access points to your garage that lead into your home, you want to ensure all doors are locked and/or dead-bolted at all times. If you have a side garage door, but you rarely use it, make sure it is locked at all times, but carry a key for it in case of emergency. By locking any doors that lead into your garage, you are making it almost impossible for anyone but you and your family to get inside. 

5. Install lighting

Most garage doors that we install come with a light that automatically turns on when the garage door is being opened. Another great way to secure your garage doors is to install motion censored lighting around your garage, that way if someone were trying to break in, the light turning on would deter them away first. 

6. Install a security system
