Questions a Garage Door Dealer is Asked

Bob's Advance Garage Doors technicians can help you purchase and install the most ideal garage doors you can imagine. We also provide garage door repairs and replacement services on existing garage doors at affordable rates.

There are lots of questions that come to the mind of homeowners when it comes to buying garage doors, the following are some of the most prominent among them;

Should I go For Metal or Wood Garage Door?

The wood garage door is ideal for their warmth while metal garage doors made of aluminum or steel come with low maintenance. Both are subjected to quality manufacturing and come at varying prices. Please contact us at Bob's Garage Doors if you are unsure of whether to go for wooden or metal garage doors.

Should I go for Insulated or Non-Insulated Door?

The answer to this question depends on how you use the garage door and whether your garage door is attached or detached and if it is heated or not. You may not need an insulated door if all you do is park your car in the garage, but heated doors will require insulation.

How Long Does the Garage Door Last?

The lifespan of a garage door will normally depend on the type of construction and quality of material components of the door. A 45mm thick garage door that has been injected with Polyurethane foam should last for about 20 years. The paint finish on the door may have to be replaced every couple of years.

Should I go for One Double Garage Door or Two Single Doors?

When you consider the practicality of garage doors, you should rather go for two single doors. Two single door garages are better because if one side malfunctions, you can get your car out from the functioning side.

Should I go for Torsion or Extension Hardware?

If your garage door has a minimum of 12 inches of headroom then the Torsion hardware will be the ideal option. The reason for this is that Torsion hardware supports the weight of the door which is centrally distributed. It also provides better operation when compared to extension hardware. The extension hardware comes with two coil springs located over the tracks and they work independently of each other. Extension hardware is not as durable as Torsion hardware.

Is there a Minimum Space Needed Above the Door?

A minimum of 14 inches of space is recommended as headed space above the garage door. An extra 2” space is recommended for the door opener.

How Much Does a Garage Door Cost?

The cost of a garage door will largely depend on the quality and finish of the door. A metal door made of aluminum and insulated with Polyurethane foam will be more expensive than one that is not insulated. You may want to contact Bob's Garage Doors for the price range of different garage doors.
